Moose Master Rules

Players: 3 or more
Typical play time: about 30 minutes

Goal

Avoid penalties while following the active Moose Rules and the instructions on the Moose Master cards.

Setup

1. Shuffle the Moose Master deck.
2. Shuffle the Moose Rule cards and choose two rules to be active at the start of the game.
3. Place the Penalty cards where everyone can reach them.

Taking a Turn

On your turn, draw the top Moose Master card, place it face up, read it aloud, and immediately follow its instruction.

Cards may ask players to do things such as name an item in a category, build a story one word or one action at a time, rhyme with a word, answer a question with a question, point in a direction, play rock-paper-scissors, copy another player, or perform another quick action.

Moose Rules

The two active Moose Rules apply to everyone at all times until a card changes one of them. Examples include restrictions such as not saying a certain word, not using a particular hand, keeping one hand on the table, or performing an action before drawing a card.

If a Moose Master card tells a player to change or assign a Moose Rule, replace one of the active rules as directed.

Penalties

Everyone should watch and listen for mistakes. When a card calls for a group response, the last player to perform the required action—or the first player to do it incorrectly—takes a Penalty card.

A player who breaks an active Moose Rule also takes a Penalty card.

Some Penalty cards have an additional instruction, such as allowing the player to change a Moose Rule or give the Penalty card to another player. Carry out that instruction when the card is received.

Ways to Win

Elimination

When a player reaches 7 Penalty cards, that player is eliminated. Continue until only two players remain; those two players win.

Fewest Penalties

Play through the entire Moose Master deck. When the deck is exhausted, the player with the fewest Penalty cards wins. If players are tied, they share the win unless the group agrees on a tiebreaker.

Accessibility Note

Read every newly drawn Moose Master card and every active Moose Rule aloud so all players receive the same information. Keep the two active Moose Rules in consistent positions on the table.
