Rules to I'll Pass
Players: 3 - 5
Age: 8+ years
Playing Time: 20 minutes
Contents
32 cards with numbers from 3 to 34
55 arrow tokens
Summary
From the deck one card is revealed. When it is their turn players must make a choice. Their first option is to take the card and put it in front of them. Taking the card gives them points equal to the number of the card.
The second choice is to put a pass token on the card and not take it. The next player then must make the same choice but this time they would also get any pass tokens on the card.
Eventually players will take the card with the tokens. Once a player takes a card, the next player reveals the next card and gameplay continues until the deck runs out and all cards have found an owner.
The player with the fewest points wins.
The Cards and the tokens
When a player takes a card, that player gets points equal to the number on the card. A card with 3 on it is worth 3 points. The one exception to this rule though is if you have a sequence of cards that are directly next to one another only the lowest card in the sequence counts for points. An example of this would be if a player had 8,9,10 it would be worth 8 points instead of 27.
Setup
Each player gets 11 pass arrows putting the remainder back into the box.
The cards are shuffled and 8 cards are removed and placed back into the box. They will not be used this game. The remaining cards should be placed in the center of the table. The first card should be flipped face up to begin gameplay
Gameplay
The start player either
• Puts the card face up in front of themselves and takes any existing tokens(if any) on the card
• or places a token on the card to pass.
Either way play moves clockwise to the next player. If the last player took the card a new card is flipped face up.
The next player flips a card if there isn't one and then faces the same decision: either take the card (and the tokens), or pass by placing one of their chips on the card.
Often, players will pass on a card for several times, so that the number of chips lying next to the card gets to be big.
Note:
All card values have to be clearly visible at all times during the game. This is not secret information and a player may ask at any time about the cards any other player has in front of them.
The game follows this sequence until all cards of the deck have been claimed. As soon as the last card of the deck has been taken, the game ends and the final scores are calculated.
End of the Game
After the last card has been claimed each player adds up their final score by summing up the values of all their single cards, plus that of the lowest card of each unbroken number sequence. After adding these, each player subtracts the number of chips they have remaining from that number.
The player with the lowest final score wins the game.
