Smash Up: Pretty Pretty Smash Up Rules
Smash Up: Pretty Pretty Smash Up Rules
This expansion uses the normal Smash Up rules and adds Fairies, Kitty Cats, Mythic Horses, and Princesses. AEG has since released an official Fairy Titan; current errata is included below.
Fairies
Fairies frequently offer a choice between two effects and manipulate Actions attached to minions and bases.
Glymmer: The chosen temporary effect lasts until the start of your next turn even if Glymmer leaves play or another player later takes control of it.
Tinx, Daisy Chain, Ladybug, and similar transfer effects: Transferring an Action does not change that Action's controller unless another rule explicitly says so.
Enchantment: If it is transferred to a different base, it keeps the mode chosen when it was first played; transferring it does not let its controller choose a new half of the ability.
Leaf Armor: Use the current AEG functional errata, under which the attached minion has the Talent printed in the current online text.
Spirit of the Forest: This later official Titan may replace the normal minion and Action play as specified on its card. Once per turn it can let an “OR” ability use both listed choices in the Titan's permitted order. If it loses a clash of Titans, its own current text may allow it to move instead of being removed.
Kitty Cats
Kitty Cats reduce opposing minion power, temporarily take control of weak minions, and often destroy minions they currently control for a benefit.
Control versus ownership: Taking control changes who uses the minion and counts its power, but it does not change who owns the physical card. At the end of a temporary control effect, return control as directed by the rules.
Whiskers: The Talent gives an extra Action and then requires the destruction described on the card. Do not treat the Action play and destruction as two unrelated optional choices unless the current card wording explicitly makes one optional.
Mr. Grumpers: Current errata makes its -2 power effect last until the start of your next turn rather than merely the end of the current turn.
Cat Fight and Nine Lives: The later benefit is not necessarily contingent on a destruction succeeding unless the card uses conditional wording such as “if you do.” If destruction is replaced by an effect like Hang in There, resolve the rest according to the current card wording.
Hang in There: It replaces destruction with moving the minion and destroying the Action. Because the minion was not destroyed, destruction-triggered effects do not trigger from that attempted destruction.
The House of Nine Lives: Its replacement movement can save a minion that would otherwise be destroyed at another base, assuming movement is legal.
Mythic Horses
Mythic Horses reward grouping your own minions on the same base and provide movement and extra minion plays to create those groups.
Rainbow: Use AEG's current functional errata. Its Talent now checks whether you have another minion at the same base; it no longer requires that another minion was played there earlier that turn.
Seastar: Only one Seastar ability can provide the extra minion play each turn, as stated on the current card.
Sharing Power: Current errata checks the required two-minion condition at the end of your turn.
Super Future Space Armor Power: The +2 power applies to minions that qualify when the Action resolves. Minions played later that turn do not automatically inherit the earlier effect.
Teaching Power: Reveal the specified number of cards, choose one revealed minion to play if possible, then return the remaining cards to the top in the order you choose.
Princesses
Princesses have only six minions, each a unique power-5 character with a different ability, and their Actions echo those abilities.
Eliza: Cards played outside the normal Play Cards phase or out of turn count as extra cards for Eliza's restriction. Other players cannot bypass Eliza merely by getting an extra play from a Special or another unusual timing window.
Fairy Godmother: Use the current AEG functional errata: choose between its current card-draw mode and its current temporary-power mode.
Heirloom: Each Heirloom counts all Heirlooms on that minion. One Heirloom gives +1 total; two give +2 each, or +4 total; three give +3 each, or +9 total.
Woodland Helpers: Current errata applies its recycle effect to standard Actions rather than every possible nonstandard Action card.
Beautiful Castle: Current errata checks printed power 5 or more for its protection.
Ice Castle: Minions cannot be played there, but they may still move there. If Ice Castle replaces a base already containing minions, those minions remain.
Accessibility play notes
Whenever control of a Kitty Cat target changes, announce the card's owner, current controller, current power, and when control will revert. For Fairies, announce the selected half of every “OR” Action and keep that choice with the card if it later moves. For Mythic Horses, announce the number of your minions on each relevant base before calculating group-dependent bonuses.
For Princess Heirlooms, state the number of Heirlooms attached and the total bonus after every change. If Spirit of the Forest is used, announce the Titan's base and clearly say when an “OR” ability is using both choices instead of one.
