UNO Teams Rules
UNO Teams Rules
UNO Teams plays like classic UNO, but players work in teams of two. Both teammates must get rid of all their cards for the team to win.
Setup
- Choose teams of two. Teammates sit across from each other.
- Shuffle and deal 7 cards to each player.
- Place the remaining deck face down as the draw pile and turn one card face up to begin the discard pile. If the first card is an Action card, ignore it and turn over another card.
- Before play begins, every player secretly chooses one card and simultaneously passes it to their teammate.
- The player to the dealer's left goes first. Play begins clockwise.
Basic Play
On your turn, play one card matching the top discard by color, number, or symbol. If you do not play a card, draw one; if the drawn card is playable, you may play it immediately.
You may choose to draw instead of playing a card already in your hand.
Communication
Teammates may talk, but they may not reveal or hint at the cards in their hands. When a Wild card is played, a teammate may not influence which color is chosen.
Passing-Symbol Cards
Some number cards show a pass symbol. When one is played, both teammates simultaneously and secretly pass one card to each other.
Action Cards
- Draw Two: the next player draws 2 cards and loses their turn.
- Reverse: reverse the direction of play.
- Skip: the next player loses their turn.
- Wild: choose the color that continues play.
- Wild Team Play: choose a color, then play jumps directly to your teammate. If your teammate can play, they play a card and play continues from them. If they cannot play, you draw 2 penalty cards; play still continues from your teammate's position.
- Wild Team Draw Four: choose the next color. The next player draws 2 cards and loses their turn; that player's teammate also draws 2 cards, even if currently out of the hand. Play then continues after those penalties.
Calling UNO
When a player has only one card, either that player or their teammate may call “UNO.” If neither does so before the next player's turn begins and another player catches them, the player with one card draws 2.
Going Out and Sharing Cards
If you empty your hand while your teammate still has cards, your teammate gives you half of their remaining cards, rounded down, and you continue playing. For example, with 9 cards they give you 4 and keep 5.
If your teammate has only 1 card when you go out, they keep it and you stay out for the moment.
Tagging Back In
If you are out and your teammate later draws cards for any reason, they immediately give you half of their cards, rounded down, and you return to play.
Winning
Your team wins when both teammates have no cards remaining.
Optional Scoring
If using multi-round scoring, a winning team scores the cards left in the opponents' hands. Number cards score face value, ordinary action cards score 20 points, and Wild cards—including the team Wilds—score 50 points. The first team to 500 points wins.
Accessibility Note
When a pass-symbol card is played, announce that a partner exchange is happening, but do not identify which cards are being exchanged. Teammates should make their choices without revealing card information.
